For my fight against “The Lanna Warrior” at ONEFC 21 on October 17th in Kuala Lumpur, I cut the largest amount of weight I have cut in my professional career. I cut about 8-9 kg over the course of 24 hours. Now, before I continue and tell you what my techniques were, I need make this disclaimer.
I AM EXPLAINING HOW I “CUT WEIGHT.” “CUTTING WEIGHT” AND “WEIGHT LOSS” ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. “CUTTING WEIGHT” IS SPECIFIC TO SPORTS THAT REQUIRE WEIGHT CATEGORIES OR WHERE BEING LIGHT GIVES YOU A BENEFIT LIKE A HORSE JOCKEY. “WEIGHT LOSS” IS CHANGING YOUR BODY COMPOSITION. IF YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT AND FAT, TRYING THESE TECHNIQUES TO LOSE WEIGHT ARE NOT JUST INEFFECTIVE, THEY ARE COUNTER PRODUCTIVE AND JUST PLAIN STUPID. With that out of the way, here are the main concept that I adhered to during the weight cut.
1. Eat food not crap
If you have a problem with resisting coke and sprite, if you have a problem staying away fast food like KFC and McDonald’s then you need to focus on that. You need to focus on your self discipline. Nothing really insults me more than people who want personal advice and guidance when they have made zero effort on their parts to at first adhere to common sense rules. If junk food is a regular part of your diet, and we will define junk food as anything that is not an ingredient, anything that is a prepared meal in a package, anything that is NOT in its natural state, that is from a box and doesn’t need refrigeration, your eating junk. We’re talking about fast weight loss, and if you want to lose weight fast you need to make very, very profound changes in your lifestyle.
2. Boost your metabolism
One of the keys to my weight cut and also to weight loss is to boost your metabolism and I did that in 2 ways. The first and most important way I did that was by eating more often. Simply take your normal food intake and spread it out over the day so that you are eating about every 2 hours. You should never eat until your full. I would often eat one piece of fruit or one egg during the end stages of the weight cut. The second way I would boost my metabolism would be through drinking lots of green tea throughout the day, like 3 times per day. I would also drink black coffee in the morning and sometimes early afternoons. Energy drinks and all their sugar ARE NOT OK. Stick to green tea and coffee.
3. Clear your digestive tract
This one is somewhat similar to the first one. By eating more often, and eating clean, nutritious food, your not causing any blockages in your intestines. Your probably carrying around about 3 kg of undigested food in your stomach and possibly more if you have a really bad diet that is low in fiber. By eating more often and in smaller amounts you give your digestive system full capability to digest your food quickly and efficiently.
4. Drink lots of water
Your probably wondering why I recommend drinking lots of water, when many of you know that I lost a considerable amount of water weight for the weigh in. I did this for two reasons, the first reason is something called water loading, which simply hyper saturates your body so that you are eliminating water as a faster rate. When your body becomes accustomed to this, you restrict the water but are still eliminating it quickly causing a temporary imbalance that will help you reach the contracted weight class (because we’re weight CUTTING!!). The other reason is that it helps clear your digestive tract, lots of water coupled with small meals, equals your body processing food very quickly and efficiently.
5. THE FINAL CUT
The final cut is when we begin to dehydrate our bodies for the purposes of making a weight class. Unless your a professional athlete this is not important so I am not going to get into the details of this because I don’t want anyone doing something stupid. Basically I restrict my fluid intake for about 24 hours, along with low food intake while still eating super small amounts at regular intervals. If I need to, I will use a hot bath or a sauna to help me sweat.
So, this is a basic summary of how I lost the weight using principals. I believe principals are important because they give you flexibility depending upon your choices. Giving people meal plans often makes the process more confusing because not everyone has access to the same ingredients or likes the same food. Also, I am writing this for people whom I am assuming have general common sense as to what is food and what is junk. As I said in the beginning, if your weekly diet consists of regularly (over 2 per week) servings of soda, boxed juices and fast food and you think this is reasonable. You have other issues that need to be focused on, that I cannot help you with using an article.
